Salary compression of middle managers

We recently conducted a salary survey in the North’s creative and marketing sectors, and the results reveal some interesting insights. Raising the minimum wage has boosted entry-level salaries, but many organizations have failed to maintain the same gap between entry-level and experienced employees.

So, are we creating middle management salary compression?

Our survey shows that marketing assistant salaries now often start at £25-27,000, marketing managers at £28-36,000, but marketing managers are often asked to manage budgets and staff for £40-45,000.

Are there real problems with marketing executive salaries?

Our survey found that salaries for marketing managers ranged between £30,000 and £60,000, with a median salary of £40,000.

Marketing Manager, however, can be one of the most misleading titles in marketing. A marketing manager may be the sole marketing manager in a £12 million business or the manager of a small team within a much larger marketing department. They could manage very different budgets.

In a recent conversation with a hiring manager, they explained that they were having issues with a recently promoted team member. What was supposed to help retain them actually didn’t help at all, as the £3,000 pay rise wasn’t worth the extra work involved.

Senior leaders face a difficult balancing act. Entry-level salaries have increased significantly in recent years, but many organizations have not been able to increase executive salaries at the same rate. How can they best ensure that the rest of the salary structure keeps pace? It becomes much harder to retain ambitious people if management positions don’t offer significant progression, people start to wonder if the next step is actually worth it.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
