Director of NIH Institute of Neurological Disorders ousted

Walter Koroshetz, director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, will soon leave his position, STAT has learned. His departure in the coming days means that nearly half of the NIH’s 27 divisions will have interim leaders.

Koroshetz sent an email to NINDS staff Friday evening, explaining that his reappointment request had been denied, adding that his current temporary extension ends Sunday.

“There is a possibility of a short-term extension, but uncertain at best,” he wrote in an email obtained by STAT.
